In Mylos, one of the beaches of Lefkada Town, we see every year more kites kitesurfers in the air. The new extreme sport is practiced on this beach, where the Kitesurf Open is held a contest organized by the Provincial Government of Lefkada and participation by both Greek and foreign athletes. This fascinating sport raises the adrenaline level in the blood and the mistral, which blows throughout the year, the kites provides speeds of 30 to 40 miles. This creates a spectacle for all who follow.
Kitesurfing arose from a combination of several other sports (windsurfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, paragliding) and one could see it as the natural evolution of windsurfing, because the use of lighter material provides unlimited possibilities. The kitesurfer stands on a small board while a boom holds in his hands that connects him with long ropes to the kite. The main feature which distinguishes kitesurfing, is the strength of the upward pressure that has been added allowing the kiter the pull of the kite can gebuiken upwards to make very high jumps and, therefore, very impressive maneuvers.
